To the Parents and Guardians of The Hamptons School,

We hope everyone had a great Spring Break with families and friends.

It was lovely welcoming students back on Monday as they stepped back into their routines and engaged in their learning.

Spring is still trying to Spring!

“Spring is when you feel like whistling, even with a shoe full of slush."

 Doug Larson - Columnist

Thank you for continuing to teach your children their purpose ….

I come to The Hamptons School to Learn.

As I continue to visit classrooms and focus on student learning, I am asking students 5 questions.

This week, I have shared some of the Grade Three and Four student responses.

What are you learning?  (Learning Intention) (Task Design)

“In science we are learning about motion, applied force, elastic, potential energy, tension, push / pull, friction, levers, gravity, inclined plane, wedge / pulley, and Sir Isaac Newton’s First Law.”

Why are you learning this? (Conceptual Understanding)

  • to use for future purpose – construction / cars
  • for our education, so we know more when we grow up

What do you do when you make a mistake? (Growth Mindset)

  • learn for next time
  • fix it
  • learn not to repeat it

How do you learn when you make a mistake? (Growth Mindset)

  • learn for next time
  • don’t give up
  • figure out what happened
  • not everyone is perfect – everyone makes mistakes
  • keep trying
  • take a deep breath

How do you know when you have done a good job? (Success Criteria)

  • because you checked the work
  • because you feel it
  • because you feel proud
  • because you achieved your goal

Speaking with students about their learning, always creates moments of Joy!

These are engaging questions that parents can ask their children after a day of learning.

Student Led Conferences

We had another full house of families for conferences on Thursday, March 19.

Thank you for your participation, questions and reflections. You created conversations about learning.

The students continued to shine, during the Student-Led Celebration!
